Ethiopians and others with similar cultures who are residing in Toronto and the surrounding regions in Ontario, Canada have been Observed struggling to afford funeral expense on the death of a member in the community. Funeral expenses have been beyond the ability of individuals and families.
There has been posting of the photographs of the deceased individual in a box and soliciting money from the community by displaying the boxes in various business/stores, religious institutions etc. since the funeral expenses are very high that one family couldn’t afford. Furthermore, due to the financial hurdles, people were also forced to keep the bodies of the deceased individual for a longer time.
Thus, to provide the community with a solution to address such kind of hardships, WMSA is established by the participation of community members who are willing to pay contributions as stated in this by-law which is drafted based on basic rules and regulations.
